Description: PiMaax is a Raspberry Pi-based mobile environmental sensing system developed at CYENS Centre of Excellence for high-resolution Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect mapping and urban climate monitoring. PiMaax integrates air temperature, wind speed, GPS, and time measurements, enabling georeferenced environmental observations at street and neighborhood scale.
During the summer of 2025, PiMaax was used to collect data across Nicosia Municipality as part of the CLIMAAX-NIC project. This summer, we are continuing our field measurements in Limassol Municipality through the Pathways2Resilience (P2R) Limassol project.
PiMaax is now open source, with the hardware, software, and 3D designs available for anyone to replicate and adapt. It can support municipalities, NGOs, researchers, and other organisations interested in mapping and understanding the Urban Heat Island effect in their cities.Resources::
